Islamabad, October 27, 2021:

* Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad.

The Cabinet was briefed on introduction of electronic voting machines and voting rights for overseas Pakistanis.

Cabinet stressed on the importance of experimental use of electronic voting machines in bypolls.

The Finance Advisor presented a comparative review of the prices of essential commodities to the Federal Cabinet.
The Cabinet expressed strong concern over the rising prices of essential commodities in Sindh.

Interior Minister briefed the Cabinet on talks with TLP.
The cabinet decided to take action against the militant elements challenging the writ of the state as per law.

Besides, the Cabinet stressed that the rights of every citizen are equal according to the Constitution and the law.

*Ministry of National Food Security briefed the Cabinet on steps to modernized the agriculture sector and end monopolies in it.
These measures include introduction of new types of tractors, farm machinery, farming equipment, high yielding seeds, research and development, use of ground positioning systems.
Measures are being taken to provide support price and subsidy to small farmers to end the monopoly of large farmers and large farm machinery manufacturing companies.

*Ministry of Aviation briefed the Cabinet on implementation of National Aviation Policy.

The Cabinet was informed that the process of obtaining NOC for aviation has been simplified.
Consultations are underway to determine the extent of high-rise buildings near airports.
Cabinet directs early completion of consultation process with builders.

*Cabinet approved the appointment of members in the Board of Export Development Fund for a period of one year.
After approval, the Board will now consist of the following members:.

  •President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  •President, Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  •President, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  •Chairman, Pakistan Hoisary Association
  •Chairman, Pakistan Ready Made Garments Association
  •Chairman, Pakistan Leather Garments Association
  •Chairman, Pakistan Electronics Association
  •Khawaja Muhammad Anis, Mahmood Group
  •Arif Nadeem, Pakistan Agriculture Alliance
  •Waheed Ahmed, Pattern in Chief, All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetable Table Merchants Association

*To make the competition (CSS) exam more effective, the Cabinet approved the screening test from the aspirants before the written examination.
However, for the convenience of candidates from less developed areas, the passing number limit in the screening test has been kept at 33%.

*Cabinet approved mutual cooperation requests to take action against those involved in criminal and serious crimes with 31 foreign countries.

*Cabinet approved recommendations of the Committee set up to hear appeals against the cancellation of Overseas Employment Promoters Licenses.

*Cabinet approved appointment of Nadeem Javed Bajwa as Managing Director, Inter State Gas Systems (Pvt.) Ltd for a three-year contract term.

*Cabinet approved the deputation of Abid Masti Khel as director on the board of Saindak Metals Ltd.

*Cabinet approved resignation of Federal Energy Minister for Energy from the Board of National Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (NEECA) and Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB).
The decision will come into effect from September 16, 2021 and the institutions will be chaired by secretary energy division till amendments to the laws pertaining to these institutions.

*Energy Division briefed cabinet on vacancies of CEOs and managing directors in government companies under the supervision of Ministry of Energy.

The Cabinet was informed that at present the posts in the institutions run by the Ministry are vacant on various reasons, out of which 4 such posts are being abolished. While in some institutions
the postings are pending in the courts. 

The Cabinet directed that procedure for appointment should be completely transparent and merit based.

*  Cabinet passed the proposals of the Cabinet Committee on Law regarding amendments to the relevant laws to protect the railway lines and assign powers to the Railway Police to take action against the miscreants.

*keeping in view the difficulties arising due to COVID, the Cabinet approved 30 days time on goods in customs warehouses for the convenience of importers. During this period, the goods in the customs warehouse will not be fined.

* Cabinet approved the appointment of independent directors on board of Nelum Jehlum Hydropower Company.

* Cabinet ratified the decisions taken by the Committee on Energy in its meeting held on 8th October, 2021.

* The decisions taken by the Economic Coordination Committee in the meeting held on 11october 2021 were ratified by cabinet.
  •Supply of gas to two fertilizer manufacturing plants to meet the fertilizer requirements in the country.
 •Incentives for IT sector.
*Cabinet ratified the decisions taken in the Meeting of the Committee on Law on 21 October 2021.

*Cabinet approved the submission of draft of Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Act, 2021 to cabinet committee on law.

*Cabinet approved additional charge of Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad for only 6 months or till appointment of elected candidate. 

* To strengthen the country's foreign exchange reserves, the Cabinet approved exemption from tax deduction on foreign exchange from international sukuk bonds.

*Cabinet approved sigining of MoU between China's Ministry of Commerce and Pakistan's Poverty Alleviation Division.

*Cabinet approved deployment of Rangers to maintain Law and order situation situation during the TLP protest.
