PM arrives on two-day official visit of Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, May 20 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was accorded a red-carpet welcome when he arrived here Wednesday on a two-day official visit of this land-locked Central Asian state.

      The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rasit Meredow.

      During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold tete-a-tete with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan that would be followed by delegation-level talks. 

      The President of Turkmenistan will host a banquet dinner in his honour. During the visit, the Prime Minister will also participate in a tree plantation ceremony.

     A few MoUs and agreements are also expected to be signed during the visit of Prime Minister to Turkmenistan.

      This is Prime Minister's fourth visit to the country, having earlier visited during previous tenures in 1992 and 1997. Prime Minister Sharif was Pakistan's first head of government to visit Turkmenistan after its independence. 

      An official welcome ceremony would take place later at the Presidential Palace in Ashgabat. 

      The Prime Minister's delegation includes the First Lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, Minister for Commerce Khurrum Dastgir, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal, Political Secretary Dr. Asif Kirmani and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
