DG FAO called on the PM

Mr Jose Graziano da Silva, DG Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House this morning.

 

Welcoming Mr. Jose Graziano da Silva on visiting Pakistan, the Prime Minister acknowledged the contribution and efforts made by FAO for poverty reduction and food security. The Prime Minister also commended the initiatives the organization for sustainable livelihood and rural development in Pakistan.

‘We deeply appreciate the role of FAO in emergency and rehabilitation assistance for the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs). The livelihood restoration programmes of the organization in disaster affected areas also deserve our profound appreciation’, said the Prime Minister.  

Expressing gratitude to the organization for its continued support to Pakistan, the Prime Minister said that the government would extend all possible cooperation to supporting FAO’s activities related to food security.

Thanking the Prime Minister, Mr Jose Graziano da Silva said that FAO strives for achieving food security for all to make sure people have regular access to enough high quality food. The DG further said that the organization’s efforts are aimed to empower people to lead active and healthy lives through sustainable management and utilization of land, water, air, climate and genetic resources.

The DG also apprised the Prime Minister regarding various ongoing projects of FAO in various parts of Pakistan.

The visiting delegation included Ms Kae Mihara, Attache de Cabinet FAO and Mr Patrick T. Evans, FAO country representative to Pakistan. Mr Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, Minister National Food Security & Research was also present during the meeting.
