Mr Roberto Azevedo, DG World Trade Organization called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House today.
Warmly welcoming the DG WTO, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is actively pursuing regional integration and China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which consists of $ 46 billion investment and infrastructure projects are aimed at boosting trade across the region. CPEC alone has the potential to immensely enhance trade amongst the regional countries and improve the lives of millions in the region, said the Prime Minister.
Highlighting the importance of trade, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is gearing up its trade-related laws in order to achieve full integration in the Global Supply Chain. Pakistan is ready to enhance its partnership with WTO and is open to international competitive trade ideas, added the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister further said that the improved law and order situation under the present democratic government has resulted into economic stability in Pakistan. Our government is addressing the power shortage issue and we expect to completely resolve this issue by 2018, after the completion of certain power projects. Peace is restored to the mega city of Karachi and terrorists are on the run due to the successful military operation. These will help Pakistan attract foreign investments by building the confidence of the investors and businessmen, stressed the Prime Minister.
Mr Roberto Azevedo thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and said that Pakistan is an ideal destination for business and investments. Mr. Roberto Azevedo complimented the Prime Minister on his vision on economy and his efforts to take up challenges of political stability, improving security, achieving energy self sufficiency and infrastructure development.
