Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Laptop scheme at Jinnah Convention center in Islamabad today. The function was attended by Mr. Ishaq Dar Finance Minister, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal Minister for Planning, Mr. Baleegh-ur- Rehman Minister of State for Higher Education, Ms Maryam Nawaz Chairperson PM Youth Program, besides the hundreds of students who were given Laptops at the occasion.
Prime Minister while addressing the gathering said that our government has special plans for our youth. The six schemes under the Youth Program are illustration of our commitment. We have successfully launched the Youth Business loan scheme and 12000 candidates have been given Loan. He said that I am happy to tell you that the successful candidates have started their businesses and have even started paying back the loan, PM added. The loan scheme is a trust we have posed in our youth and they have proved themselves trustworthy. There is a special quota for special persons and students and it is being observed in all the schemes, PM told.
Prime Minister said that the Fee reimbursement scheme will benefit around 40,000 students annually. I wish to extend this facility to all the students of Pakistan, PM said. No student should remain uneducated due to resource constraints, he added. The beneficiaries of our schemes do not belong to a specific party or region but includes students from all parts of Pakistan apart from their political affiliations, PM told. Merit is the only qualification needed to qualify for our schemes, PM added.
PM said that today I have inaugurated the Lap top scheme for students and 100,000 laptops will be distributed amongst the HEC recognized Universities. The students will also get a free EVO Dongle device along with the Laptop. The laptops have all the necessary software necessary for research while the students also will have access to 6000 national and International Journals as well.
Prime Minister Muhammad while addressing the gathering said that we are following agenda of development for Pakistan. Our agenda includes purging Pakistan from terrorism, ending load shedding during our tenure and making Pakistan prosperous and developed. “I am unable to understand the agenda of the people who are agitating. Are they agitating against our development agenda” PM asked.
He said that in order to make our country a peaceful living place we are mulling over a bill to eliminate the unlicensed weapons from the country. But we need support of all the parliamentary parties in this respect.
He told that from the very first day of our government, we have concentrated on our election agenda and the promises made with our people. We have started Youth schemes in order to make our youth self reliant. We have initiated programs to help the needy students by providing them fee reimbursement. We are providing technical training to unskilled youth. Today we have started Laptops to the students and through the scheme around 500,000 students will benefit during our tenure. We have begun a grand program to provide swift connectivity to our people. Khunjerab to Gawadar Economic trade corridor and Lahore to Karachi motorway are our major initiatives in this respect. We have commenced with new power projects and initiated power sector reforms to eliminate load shedding from the country. Our objective is to make Pakistan a developed and prosperous country so that we can move heads high in the comity of nations.
People have given us mandate and we wish to serve our people. Let us join together for development of the country, PM said.
