Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that energy and infrastructure projects are the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and these projects need to be completed as early as possible. He said this while chairing a progress review meeting regarding Pakistan-China Economic Corridor and infrastructure projects here in PM House today. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Water & Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Federal Minister for Planning Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Special Assistant to PM Mr. Tariq Fatemi and senior government officers.
Prime Minister said that the government will ensure that Chinese investments in Pakistan are secure and will provide best returns. PM further said that he will also discuss cooperation between Pakistan and China on these projects with the Chinese leadership during his visit to the upcoming Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference being held in China from 9-11 April, 2014.
During the meeting, Federal Minister for Planning apprised the PM that Framework Agreement with the Chinese government for funding of projects has been finalized. PM was also apprised regarding status of Karachi to Lahore Motorway project and Rehabilitation plan for Lahore-Islamabad Motorway.
Prime Minister said that energy sector projects are of vital importance to Pakistan’s economy and these are on the highest priority of the government.
During briefing on energy sector projects, PM was told that master plan for Pakistan Power Park at Gaddani has been completed and feasibility for jetty and infrastructure will be completed by June, 2014.
During the meeting briefing was given on early-harvest projects including 1320 MW Coal-Based Power Projects (IPP) at Port Qasim, 660 MW Coal-Based Power Projects (IPP) at Gaddani by Power China, 1100 MW Kohala Hydro Power Project, 873 MW Suki Kanari Hydro Power Project, 720 MW Karot Hydro Power Project, 3.5 MT/A Coal Mining Project Thar Block-II SECMC, Solar Power Park at Bahawalpur, Karachi – Lahore Motorway, Construction of East-Bay Expressway at Gwadar and Hospital at Gwadar (300 beds).
