PM visits General Headquarters, Rawalpindi

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistani nation holds Pakistan Army in the highest esteem as they have always shown professional excellence in times of war and peace. He said this while visiting the Pak Army General Head Quarters, Rawalpindi today. Minister for Finance Mr. Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior Ch. Nisar Ali Khan and Special Assistant to PM Mr. Tariq Fatemi also accompanied the Prime Minister.

While meeting Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Principal Staff Officers, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan Army has set an historic example by sacrificing their lives for defending our motherland. Those who have fought for Pakistan, GHAZI (living) and SHAHEED (martyred), have sacrificed their today for ensuring a better tomorrow for our future generations and all of them are our benefactors. Prime Minister further said that each soldier of Pak Army enters into the battle field with the passion to lay their life for the country and desire of attaining martyrdom. It is this passion and high morale that is the biggest strength of our forces. Those who have laid their lives in the fight against terrorism would be remembered forever.

Prime Minister said that Pakistan is a democratic and peace-loving country and wants proliferation of stability in the world. The people of Pakistan repose complete trust in democracy and believe that strong defence and stable democracy are essential for the country. The Prime Minister said that he has utmost confidence in the professional capabilities of Pakistan Army and hoped that In-Shaa-Allah Pakistan would soon be recognized as a peaceful and developed country among the comity of nations. 

Chief of Army Staff and Principal Staff Officers briefed the Prime Minister regarding operational environment, spectrum of threat, national security issues, contributions of Pak Army in nation building, support to civil administration in law and order situations and natural calamities.  Prime Minister was also apprised on engagements of Army battalions at border areas of Pakistan and the level of preparedness against external and internal threats.  

After the briefing, Prime Minister visited various sections of the General Headquarters and expressed satisfaction over the performance of these sections.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani received the Prime Minister at GHQ and a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented Guard of Honor. Prime Minister also placed floral wreath at the Martyrs Monument and prayed for the SHUHADA (Martyrs).
