I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on throwing off the yoke of Dogra Raj on 1st November 1947. The valiant freedom struggle and its successful outcome are indeed worth celebratory commemoration.
Gilgit-Baltistan fell under non-Muslim rule in 1819 and was formally given under Dogra rule in 1846 but its people never gave up their Muslim identity and the claim to manage their affairs accordingly. The territories comprising Gilgit-Baltistan and people inhabiting them naturally wanted to be united with people of Pakistan and since the overthrow of Dogra rule they became an integral part of Pakistan.
The scenic lure of Gilgit-Baltistan is legendary and so is the reputation of its people as hardworking and enterprising citizens positively contributing to the national development.
I am sure that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan will continue their endeavors in achieving high level of development. PMN(N) government is committed to provide them with all assistance they require. I join them in their celebrations and offer them every good wish.
